Jesus can’t be the Messiah

If Jesus is the son of God and Joseph’s seed had nothing to do with his creation (Mary was a virgin after all), then he isn’t Joseph’s son and is not of the line of David which is a requirement of being the Messiah.

  1. Well considering that Mary(his mother) was in the line of benjamin then yes he does have a link to the lineage of David. Please do research before you found bad arguments.David

  2. Mary was also of the lineage of David.

I grow so tired of this revisionist argument. The Jesus — Mary – David connection was never used until the Jesus — Joseph – David one was shown to be invalid. The fact that Mary had a link back to David (and was therefore kin to her husband – eck!-) is not the point, as whenever a connection is made from Jesus back to David in order to legitimize him as the Messiah, it is made illegitimately through the Joseph–David connection.

Mary is from the same line as David since each tribe had their own regions of Israel. So its very conceivable that Mary is from the line of David. Also since Joseph was the legal guardian of Jesus the role of him being in the family line takes the shape in the adoptive form as well. Thus Jesus is in the line of David from Mary, as well as Joseph’s since he’s adopted, and Joseph had to register Jesus under his name. No different then Moses being made prince of Egypt even though he was adopted.

Please see the above reply and please provide evidence that Joseph registered Jesus under his name. Where exactly did you find these adoption records?

  6. Are you proposing Jesus did not exist?

  7. PS: if so what evidence do you have that he did not exist?

  8. doubtingthomas426 Says:

Are you serious? First, even if there were ANY evidence that, at some time in ancient Middle Eastern history, someone named ‘Jesus’ existed it does nothing more than prove that someone name ‘Jesus’ existed. It DOES NOT prove that Jesus of the bible existed! OR that any miracle associated with him ever occurred. Also, it is not for me to prove that the biblical Jesus or God existed but the believer’s. The burden of proof rests upon the theist, not the skeptic. Remember, the burden of proof weighs upon he who asserts that some thing (God) exists. Unless evidence for your claim is produced, the skeptic can treat the claim as false.

Please visit http://www.atheists.org/christianity/didjesusexist.html for an excellent explanation on why the biblical Jesus didn’t exist.

***I put ‘Jesus’ in quotes because, obviously, that was not his real name.

  9. I will respond to this post in an upcoming blog I’m currently researching. So keep looking for it!

  10. No one can prove that God exists! (Except God!)
And no one can prove that God doesn’t exist, either.

Even if all the facts could be laid out for and against the existence of God (or Jesus), there would still be, at the very end, a leap of faith— to believe or not to believe.

Where is this connection through Joseph used to validate his claim as Messiah.
Jewish law allowed for heritage to be passed down through a woman.

Num 27:8, “Therefore, tell the Israelites; If a man dies without leaving a son, you shall let his heritage pass on to his daughter.”
    2. Num 36:6-7, “This is what the Lord commands with regard to the daughters of Salphahad: They may marry anyone they please, provided they marry into a clan of their ancestral tribe, so that no heritage of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelites will retain their own ancestral heritage.”

But, even if you don’t agree that Mary’s lineage counts, Joseph’s still does, because by taking Mary as his wife, Joseph adopted Jesus as his son. So, even though there was not a blood tie, there is a legal inheritance tie. This is also evident in how the Bible describes the rights and privileges of those who are adopted into God’s family.

  12. Paul,

The illegitimate Jesus to David through Joseph connection was used for a VERY long time and some sects of Christianity still do. That was my point. Use the Mary connection, NOT the Joseph one. And, no, the Joseph tie doesn’t count just because he raised Jesus. The BLOOD tie was ALL that mattered. I mean THAT is the entire reason why the connection back to David is of such importance.
