Ignorance is bliss

In I Cor 1 God discourages the development of one’s mind. I Cor 1:19, 20 – “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” AND 1Cor 1:27 – “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise…”

  1. ignorance is bliss? The hell it is. What nonsense . . . Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? Christianity’s foundation was successfully founded on such nonsense.

Yes, Mary K., this is one of my biggest issues with religion (not just Christianity). To discourage people from asking questions or scrutinizing their beliefs or seeking knowledge and to encourage ignorance is unforgivable. No one should ever stand behind anything that they haven’t scrutinized. If there is even the POSSIBILITY that what you are being told is not the truth and you refuse to look into it or ,WORSE, choose to ignore it, then you deserve the ridicule that will surely be directed your way. My intention with this site isn’t to ‘convert’ believers into Atheists but simply to encourage those believers to scrutinize what they believe. For some reason VERY FEW seem willing to do so. Go figure.

  3. Doubting Thomas, good luck with that one. Example: you have to be aware that there are several scriptures, at least one in the Old Testament, that clearly state that Jesus spoke to the people in parables and in parables only. Get that across, if you can, to a fundamental Christian who can’t be persuaded that when Jesus used the term ‘Gehenna fire’ that he was using it as a parable, and not as a place they will go to if they deny him after his death.
