A Life of Excess

Solomon, to build a temple to the Lord in Jerusalem, used: 70,000 border bearers, 80,000 hewers, 3,300 labor bosses, 30,000 laborers. It takes seven years to complete. To dedicate the temple he sacrifices 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. He also builds a palace to himself that takes thirteen years (longer than the temple to your lord? And yet no punishment from God) and a house for one of his 700 wives. Massive amounts of stone, timber (where’d he acquire that), gold and jewels are used. The bible says Solomon had 40,000 stalls of horses, 12,000 horsemen. I Kings 4, 6, 7 and I Kings 8:62-64.
